Welcome
to our web site!
The
Club:
The
club was formed in January 1981, by 3 enthusiastic couples,
the Tyndalls, Nixons, & Goodyears. Together they started
dancing at the Wiarton Community Center, (upstairs) with 13
squares of new dancers the first night.
Through
the years, the club has danced in several locations in Wiarton,
including the public school, the high school, Salvation Army
Hall, and now we dance at "The Meeting Place".
The
night consists of Beginners, Mainstream and Announced Plus
Tips, with Rounds in between. Over the years, theme nights
have become our most popular events.
The
club held a square dance festival, "Steppin' Out 84",
hosted a premier Ontario dance with "The Red Boot
Boys" from Tennessee. The club has entered floats
in Wiarton Christmas parades, entertained at area nursing
homes, danced at summer outdoor festivals at local parks,
and hosted many SWOSDA monthly dances.
Many
years ago the club had in their possession an albino groundhog
(this is Wiarton, after all!). It was donated to the
town of Wiarton for it's annual festival . The new town mascot
was presented to the town at a summer dance in Bluewater Park,
with TV and Press coverage - again promoting square dancing
to the public.
Our
Callers:
Lorne & Cecille Lockrey
have called for the club since its beginning in 1981,
teaching both Squares and Rounds.
